Reece Birtles

Reece Birtles 

Chief Investment Officer, Martin Currie Australia

Reece is a Non-Executive Director of Martin Currie Investment Management Limited (MCIM). He is also a member of Martin Currie’s Executive Committee and Investment Executive Committee. Reece has held the role of Chief Investment Officer (CIO) of Martin Currie Australia (MCA) since 2006, and is also the lead portfolio manager for MCA’s Value Equity, Equity Income and Diversified Income & Growth strategies.

In his time as CIO, the MCA team has been recognised for its strong investment performance, and introduction of unique client solutions that have resulted in strong product ratings, an expanded client base, and industry awards. Reece has been integral in the launch of Australian Value Equity strategy in 2006 and he spearheaded the launch of MCA’s retirement income solutions in 2010.

Reece joined MCA in 1995 as a research analyst, moving to London as global equity portfolio manager and head of financials research in 2003, before being promoted to head of European equities. Reece returned to Australia in 2006 as CIO. Prior to MCA, Reece worked for Ford Credit Australia.

Reece has a Bachelor of Business (Economics and Finance) and a Masters of Finance from RMIT University, and is a CFA® charterholder.


Ross Kent 

Client Portfolio Manager, Martin Currie Australia

Ross is a Client Portfolio Manager at Martin Currie Australia (MCA). He is embedded within the MCA investment team and works closely alongside the Franklin Templeton Australia sales team.

Ross joined MCA in October 2022. He represents MCA’s innovative suite of investment capabilities within the institutional and intermediary marketplace in Australia.

Prior to joining the firm, Ross was at Bridge Impact Capital where he was responsible for building commitment from co-investors to fund infrastructure projects. Prior to this, Ross was Head of Strategic Relationships at MLC Asset Management (formerly NAB Asset Management) where he was responsible for directing the strategic account management of their ten largest client relationships. Ross has many years of experiences in sales and client services in Australian and the UK including Dimensional Fund Advisors Australia, AllianceBernstein Australia & NZ and AMP Group. His earlier career involved senior product marketing and strategy roles at Prudential UK and Prudential Australia.

Ross has a Bachelor of Economics and a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Tasmania.

David Fearnley

David Fearnley (Host)

Head of Retail Sales Management, Franklin Templeton Australia

David has over 25 years of experience in the financial services industry across a range of distribution-related roles including Business Development, Key Account Management and Sales Strategy.

David joined Franklin Templeton in 2015 and has responsibility for business-to-business relationships with private wealth firms, family offices and IFAs. He is also responsible for designing and leading the retail sales strategy for Franklin Templeton’s Australian business.

His areas of expertise include asset management sales, portfolio construction and sales leadership. He works with Financial Advisers, Research Analysts, Consultants and Chief Investment Officers to help improve portfolio outcomes for investors.

David’s qualifications include a Bachelor of Commerce (Monash University) and Diploma of Financial Planning (Deakin University).
